The original, and still the default.

A non-hazardous reactive sealer that soaks in rather than sitting on top, and dries 100% transparent — no film, no sheen, no sign it is there. It is the one we reach for on ordinary flatwork, and it is the product Deco built the company on back in 1991.

It goes down early in the morning, before the slab has taken on the day’s heat. On a hot surface it flash-dries and leaves whiting and streaks — which in southern Utah is not a small detail, it is most of the job.

For pool decks, and anywhere else salt lands.

A clear water-based silane/siloxane emulsion that penetrates deep into the slab to block water and the chlorides riding in it. Salt is the specific problem: it dissolves in water, soaks into the pores, then crystallises as that water evaporates, and crystals growing inside a confined pore push hard enough to break the surface apart from underneath.

• Reduces spalling, freeze–thaw damage, dusting and mildew
• Non-hazardous, non-toxic, non-flammable

This is the answer to the pool-deck question. It is a penetrating sealer, not a coating, so it does not make a wet deck slicker than it already was.

Wet look, without the film.

Beauty Enhancing Sealer — a non-hazardous polymer emulsion for porous units: concrete pavers, roof and barrel tile, natural stone. It penetrates and deepens the material’s own colour from below rather than laying a shiny film on top, and it carries two forms of UV protection.

• Never needs stripping before it can be re-coated
• Enhances colour from within the substrate, not from a surface film
• Two types of UV protection
• Lowest coverage of the range — porous units simply drink more

Worth knowing the difference: a topical acrylic sits on the surface as a film. Films can yellow under UV, they can peel, and taking one off means harsh chemicals. This does not build a film, so none of that applies.

When you want it obvious.

A hybrid: it penetrates to enhance the colour and also leaves a protective layer on the surface, which is what produces the high shine and what locks paver joint sand in place. It will bring a sun-faded surface back, and pigment can be added to tune the colour.

This one leaves a surface layer, so for a pool deck or anywhere that gets walked on wet it is a conversation rather than a default. Salt Shield is usually the better call there.

For stone that will not absorb anything.

A single-component acrylic built for non-porous materials — travertine, Spanish tile, natural stone — where a penetrating sealer has nothing to penetrate into. It bonds to the surface instead, and comes UV protected.

• Adheres to non-porous stone and tile that penetrating sealers cannot treat
• Strong chemical resistance, and holds up against water blushing
• Guards against most staining and helps prevent discolouration
• Self-levelling, though back-rolling while wet helps

Travertine is everywhere around southern Utah pools, and it stains in ways that do not come back out. This is a topical acrylic, so it will need redoing more often than the penetrating products above.

Asphalt, without the tar.

Almost every blacktop sealer on the market is an asphalt or tar-based product — a by-product of the oil industry, painted back onto your driveway. This is not that. It is a blend of natural oils and co-polymers that conditions dried-out asphalt as well as sealing it, so an old grey driveway gets its colour and its flexibility back rather than just getting painted over.

• Contains no asphalt and no tar
• Conditions old, dried-out asphalt rather than coating it
• Chemical and UV resistant
• Dries fast, and cleans up with soap and water

It gets sprayed and back-rolled, never squeegeed — a squeegee pulls too much material to the surface and you end up with a driveway that looks painted.
